AAA: Traffic in the Bay Area will be congested this weekend

Thanksgiving is traditionally known as the busiest travel weekend each year. While it is certainly good that people take time around Thanksgiving to visit loved ones or just relax, the drawback is that there will be a lot of traffic on the roads.

In this respect, the American Automobile Association, or AAA, recently released its annual prediction about the number of travelers on the road this holiday, and this last weekend in November is looking to be a busy one for the roads in San Mateo and throughout the Bay Area.

For example, in and around San Francisco, the AAA is predicting increased traffic volume which could result in travel times taking over 3 times as long as they would on a normal day.

Safety-wise, this means that motorists in the area need to be alert for traffic slowdowns on the highways and city streets, even in areas where one does not typically encounter a traffic jam. Of course, drivers should always be paying careful attention to the road and should likewise always travel at a safe speed.

In order to prevent what is supposed to be a joyful occasion from turning into a terrible tragedy, motorists should also remember to drive sober and well-rested.

Overall, the AAA expects over 49 million people to travel by car this Thanksgiving holiday, which is increase of 2.8% over last year's figure. The number of people on the road will be at the highest point since 2005.

Hopefully, motorists will drive carefully and thus help everyone have a safe and happy holiday. If a Californian does have the misfortune of being involved in a motor vehicle accident over this long weekend, then compensation may be available.
